I’ve been having a great weekend. It started off on Friday, with my friends Jaime, Rikki, Marlene and Joanna coming over for an afternoon of mahjong and pisco sours. Friday night Steve and I went to a birthday party that was hat themed. Saturday, we went grocery shopping relaxed at home and caught up on some movies. Today, Steve’s busy working, so I’ve been cooking and cleaning. Just finished up a batch of lemon scented blueberry muffins- the house smells devine. Hope you all had a great weekend as well!
Picture of us from party- Steve looks thrilled to be wearing a hat!!!
DELISH!

Yesterday, we finally joined the ranks of Daniel Craig as James Bond fans. I would go as far to say that he is my favorite James Bond ever, with Sean Connery in a close second. I really enjoyed the movie, from all aspects. I liked the toughness and edge that Daniel Craig brought to the movie, the only thing I missed was Q, though I feel in past Bond movies the gadgets became INSANE!! We went with our friends Rob and Joanna, and before hand we ventured to Schopdog, which is a chain restaurant here in Chile, for the ever popular Rocket…
After the movie we headed down to the little chinese restaurant on the beach, and ended up joining up with our friends Chris and Rikki. We had a wonderful meal and a great day overall. NO big plans for this weekend, hopefully we’ll head down to the beach. Hope all is well with you, and since I never posted a new year’s post, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I went to Caleta Los Hornos with Joanna and her parents, and had a great lunch amidst a breathtaking view. For lunch I had empanadas de queso y jaiba (cheese and crab), then for the meal- had fish and a salad- all for the bargain price of $5. I then came home and made Steve’s Grandma’s sugar cookie recipe. I was invited to play group for cookie cutting and decorating. Had a great time with the kids and the parents and we made some great cookies. Unfortunately, we ran out of time to decorate them all, so now Steve and I have to decorate our cookies, then luckily, we get to EAT THEM ALL!!!!

While I was home, I started or should I say restarted a new hobby. I’m following in the foot steps of my crafty friends and am crocheting again. My mom taught me how to make granny square baby blankets. Here are two I made (with a little help from my mom). I started a third while I was home, but ran out of time, so my mom is going to finish it. I am currently working on another blanket here in Chile. I think it will turn out beautifully, I’ll post a picture when I’m done.
For beautiful baby Ella
For soon to be baby Shamitz. I went to my friend Katy’s baby shower while I was home. More about that part of the trip to come….

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with all the works!! Steve and I went to our friend Amy’s house for a nice outdoor gathering. It was in the 70s, sunny and breezy- the perfect day. Steve made his wonderful turkey and I made mashed potatoes after going all over town and was unable to find sweet potatoes. There was about 20 of us, and we spent the day in the sun eating, drinking and relaxing. What a great way to start back in Chile!!!

The four of us spent last weekend skiing in the Andes. We left Santiago and drove straight up into the mountains surrounding the city. The drive took about an hour and a half on some of the scariest roads. It was full of switch-backs and ice, most vehicles had chains on their wheels for the ascent. ON a side note- on the way done the mountain, there was a horrible looking accident, apparently a jeep had been riding it’s breaks down the mountain, the breaks went out and it went flying over the edge. By the looks of it, we all feared the worst. It was a madhouse getting down the mountain, apparent 5500 cars were trying to, and the emergency vehicles had a hard time getting up the mountain on account of the traffic, but I found out today, that no one was hurt, just some scrapes and bruises. Back to the skiing. We arrived at our hotel Saturday morning, and immediately left for the slopes. Joel spent the day teaching Steve how to snowboard, while Cara and I spent the day skiing together. We were supposed to meet the van to take us back to the hotel at the ski resort below us, so Cara and I skied down, while Steve and Joel had to walk because it was to advanced for Steve. He ended up missing the van and they had to walk 6 kms back to the hotel. When they got back, they found Cara and I relaxing in the hot-tub. I felt so bad for Steve, but the driver wouldn’t go get him and Joel was as usual, super nice and walked with Steve. They did get to enjoy the hot-tub before dinner though. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner in the lodge, had planned on staying up and drinking some wine and playing cards, but we were all exhausted and fell right to sleep. The next morning after breakfast, though Steve was hurting from his previous day full of falls, he decided to brave it, and try it again. We went back to El Colorado, Steve and I spent the day together, and Cara and Joel spent the day at the top and back of the mountain- to places Steve and I can only visit in pics 🙂 We headed back down to Santiago that night. Check the next update for Santiago fun…

I’m sorry I haven’t updated in a while, I have so much to share about the end of Cara and Joel’s visit! Our sad news is that we lost most of our 2006 pictures- all the ones that were horizontal, which was most of them. Steve is trying to find them, so maybe we can get some back. That does mean, we lost most of our pics of Cara and Joel’s visit, so I only have a few to update with. Luckily, I hadn’t downloaded our Santiago/skiing pics yet so that post will have all those. Cara and Joel, we may need copies of the ones Joel has on his computer, I’ll let you know.
On to better things- last Wed and Thursday which would have been day 5 and 6 of the visit, we went to Pisco Elqui. Prior to leaving, Cara and I went to a friend’s house who is a painter, and Cara bought a beautiful painting- Joel do you like it? Once we got home we packed up and left. It was a cold and very rainy day on Saturday, but we didn’t let that deter us. We went up to Pisco Elqui, on the way we stopped at Las Cavas Del Valle for a wine tour and tasting.

On Tuesday, Joel and I got up bright and early and went to the Coquimbo fish market and bought a beautiful reineta and a plump juicy lenguado (flounder). While we were at the fish market, we walked along the dock and watched the fisherman at work. The dock was full of pelicans, and 2 got stuck in a trash can that they were using to discard fish guts and heads into. We briefly thought of helping them, but who wants to get near all the guts and blood? THe fisherman didn’t seem to care, they continued throwing the fish stuff in it- they’re probably used to things like this happening. We then walked around the artesian markets outside the market and I bought an alpaca shawl. We came home, picked up Cara and Steve and headed to La Feria- were we bought a ton of veggies for about $5. Then we headed to La Recova went to lunch and shopped around. Steve ended up walking back to work so we could continue our city tour. We walked around downtown, saw the Plaza de Armas, went to more artesian shope, went to the cathedral, went to a wonderful little antique store then headed to the archaeological museum. Joel’s favorite part were the shrunken heads. Cara bought a beautiful diaguita bowl at the little shop. We then came home, found recipes for the fish and I called and made our hotel reservations and then went to the bus station got our tickets for Santiago and went to Deca and got the rest of the food for our yummy dinner. Joel made stuffed artichokes for an appetizer, then we had reineta breaded and pan fried and Joel baked the flounder over a bed of chorizo and crab stuffing. Steve grilled filete and I made roasted veggies. We had gone to as wine store downtown and had a bottle of red and a bottle of white with dinner.

Unfortunately, Steve had to go to work on Monday, so the 3 of us headed to Fray Jorge and Valle del Encanto. Fray Jorge is a rain forest situated in the desert and on the water. The last time I went (which was the only time) it was so foggy that we couldn’t see the water, so I had no idea how close we actually were. The road to get there is a dirt bumpy wash board road, that we all thoroughly enjoyed. At the picnic area the foxes were out and we came prepared with some chips for them. We had a great time walking around the foggy wet lush park and taking beautiful pictures. The sun even came out! We then headed to the enchanted valley for the petroglyphs and pictographs. It’s amazing how these etchings have lasted for 4,000 years. We also got to rock climbing. We got back home at 7:30, and quickly prepared for our happy hour at 8 pm. We had a bunch of people over and had great music, wine, food and conversation. Cara and I lasted till the wee hour of 4:30am, while the boys ditched us around 2am.

On a more embarassing note, I wanted to share a little experience I had yesterday. Many of you know, that I am very particular about bathrooms. I really like using my own and it’s a long standing joke in my family. So, of course in the middle of Valle Del Encanto, I had to use it. There was no waiting for the next 2 hours, so I used the most foul thing ever. Now, you may ask, why didn’t Lisa just go outside? I didn’t think of it, I was in a near tizzy at the prospect of the bathroom, and wasn’t thinking straight. I of course, took a picture of said bathroom. So Dad, be proud, look what I used, I am now scarred for life and may have post traumatic stress syndrome :)!!!!!!
