While I was hiking today with my friend Rikki, we could see about 30 sailboats near the lighthouse sailing around. So for lunch, I picked Steve up and we went to investigate. Right next to the lighthouse is the falafel stand, so we decided to get lunch there. Of course, Steve decided not to eat, since he’s trying to eat only 1 meal a day, but I was starving. It was the best falafel ever. The last bite was so good and juicy that I ended up getting another one. Anyway, we then walked around the beach and watched the boats. They weren’t as colorful as some that i’ve seen, but impressive all the same. Here’s two of the better pics.
While driving up the Elqui Valley, for a nice days drive in the mountains and lunch at Pisco Elqui, we came across several places where it appeared some type of produce was being dried in the sun. At first, we thought it was aji (chilean peppers), but upon closer inspection we realized it was this.
Tomorrow, we’re throwing a baby shower for my friend Marlene, who is pregnant with her 2nd girl. I’m in charge of dessert, and found this great cake online to make. It’s shaped like a baby rattle. Today, I spent all afternoon baking, making 2 cakes and some cupcakes. I went off to dance class and came back to find this
No, Steve did not get hungry, the DOG ATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KNowing I was mad at her, she slunk off to the back room to her corner.
I’m currently baking yet another cake, and tomorrow will frost it. I’ll post some pics when it’s done. On a side note, I’ll probably have to stay up all night trying to finish my blanket.
Well, maybe i’ll give it to her when the babe is born.
Yesterday, Steve was able to take the day off, and we celebrated his finishing of the dissertation. We had banana pancakes- always YUMMY, watched a movie, then went on down to the beach. It was packed! We walked around, went shopping at all the little artesian booths, then went to El Muelle- a restaurant/bar. It’s located right on the beach. We had a pitcher of beer, some fries and wings, and relaxed and people watched. The highlight of the people watching were the Capel girls in thong bikinis. There were about 6 of them, and they would stand up and pose every so often. When they would, guys from all over the beach would mob them and get tons of pictures. We basically had front row back side seats- couldn’t get any better!! A new thing we noticed for the summer season, is that there are canopy beds on the beach, that you can rent for the day. We’re thinking about trying it out this weekend.
My cousin Kim had a little girl-Lily Sage, Thursday January 18, 6lbs 1oz, 20 inches long. Welcome little one, I can’t wait to see you!!!!!!
I found this recipe and decided to make it for dinner. I roasted a chicken the other day, so I made some fresh stock and headed down to the market to get my veggies. I got them, plus some strawberries and a watermelon all for less than $3.50. I’ll let you know how the soup is. I figured a nice bowl of it will go perfectly after African dance tonight!
